To date, Spanish companies in general and Galician companies in particular have encountered difficulties regarding participation in international R&D programs, the main barrier being the level of complexity attached to gaining entry to consortia.
In the 6th Framework Program, carried out between 2003 and 2006, Spain's participation amounted to just under €1,000 million, which represents 6% of the total budget. This is well below Spain's contribution to the community GDP, which stands at 8%.
In the case of Galicia, participation in the 6th Framework Program reached 1.7% of Spain's total. In the first 18 months of the 7th Framework Program (2007-2008), Galicia received €6.4 million, 1.9% of the national total.
To improve these data and make it easier for Galician companies to join international consortia which submit proposals for research and technological development within the European Union - like the 7th Framework Program of European Union R&D - as well as other multilateral and bilateral programs - like Eureka or Iberoeka - we have launched the “Cooperation for International Enterprise Innovation” project.
As well as being promoted and managed by BIC Galicia, this program is co-funded by IGAPE, the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce and the European Union, through the Innoempresa program.
We hope that the work and effort that the entire team put into this project will serve to achieve our ultimate goal: that of raising the profile of Galician companies in Europe, in technology centers and in equally innovative companies, with a view to establishing synergies, increasing Galician participation in international R&D cooperation programs.
